I am so enthralled by A Single Div (via Jenn Schiffer), a project by Lynn Fisher in which she applies CSS styles to a single div (a single box, essentially) to achieve some pretty robust illustrations. The project pulls together Lynn’s varied skillset, as she works as a designer-developer for &yet, but also has a strong fine-art side.

Many of the illustrations in A Single Div depend on CSS gradients, as well as pseudo elements (:before and :after), but it’s really interesting to see just how far you can extend one CSS property. Try to guess how each one was built, then poke around in your browser’s code inspector.
