“The Little Book of Jewish Celebrations”, Illustrated by Yelena Bryksenkova

Just in time for Rosh Hashana (September 25–26), Chronicle Books published The Little Book of Jewish Celebrations, illustrated by Yelena Bryksenkova. I’m a big fan of Yelena’s quietly colorful scenes, and this recent project is no exception:

And I’m pretty smitten with this spot illustration complementing Allison Weiner’s equally-lovely design work:

According to Yelena, the book includes “thirteen full-page color illustrations, a gold foil motif and hand lettering on the cover, and illustrated endpapers”. I’d love to see it all in person—hand lettering often carries a noticeable wonky-chic aesthetic, so this cover is a surprising exercise in balancing charm and restraint.
