What initially drew me to Leta Sobierajski’s design and art direction is the absurdity she injects into her colorful and contemporary work. Leta has a knack for creating interesting relationships with body parts and inanimate objects, and her latest personal project is a prime example.
“Complements”, a portraiture series with Wade Jeffree, pokes fun at the glut of cheesy couple photos honored by “listicles” (and likely clogging up your Facebook feed). According to the project description:
Sometimes surreal, vulgar, or grotesque, the imagery is original and stemmed from the overwhelming amount of hilarious couple photos found on the internet. In some cases we reference existing, and often horrible, photos of couples, many of which are from the 80s. Others are homages to great imagery of couples throughout history.
The resulting portraits are indeed surreal, and occasionally quite, uh, suggestive. Here’s a few favorite photos from the beginning of the project:
Leta and Wade will continue to post their collaborative efforts to their Complements tumblog. Looking forward to it!
