The Eephus League of Baseball Minutiae, Bethany’s senior project at Auburn University
File this one under long-time fan, first-time posting: Bethany Heck is an Austin-based designer currently working on product design in IBM’s Mobile Innovation Lab. She’s done great work across media (print, web, and branding), and has a real knack for adding small details that give a clean design a lot of heart.
Many good designers seem to have an outside hobby that leaks into their work. There tends to be a lot of overlap here (bikes, coffee, beer, music), so it’s refreshing to see sports as a strong presence in Bethany’s portfolio. With her baseball blog The Eephus League, and related projects, Bethany has packaged a favorite sport into something that’s both beautiful and useful to other people:

The Eephus League

The Halfliner, Bethany’s Kickstarted baseball scorebook. The promotional site is really beautiful, as well.

The Halfliner is still for purchase.

A “golden ticket” thank you to backers of The Halfliner Kickstarter campaign.
There’s plenty of more fantastic work in Bethany’s portfolio. Here’s just a few standouts:

Hive Works Branding: Personal/aspirational IBM rebrand

Logo for Granata Racing

Bethany’s preferred concept

Wilderness Systems web design

Web design for Historic Columbia

With Bethany’s work in particular, I would encourage anyone to visit her site and see the projects in their full context. Besides the added value of the full case studies, the design and build of Bethany’s site is very well-considered to the point that it’s more in league (heh) with agency sites.
